Not All Fluff
Picture Book, 32 pages
By Lalena Fisher
Sheila loves rocking out on the cool old drum kit she found in the shed. That is, until the other sheep say she's not fluffy enough, and can't possibly be a sheep—or a girl—at all. While Sheila laments to a sweet sheepdog with a knack for knitting, coyotes suddenly show up howling and growling for dinner! And Sheila summons her inner rock star. She finds that rather than being an outsider, she is a leader.
Not All Fluff is a 373-word, humorous story poking fun at stereotypes - particularly those about gender. This book was inspired by all the girls I've coached at Rock and Roll Camp for Girls since 2005.
The mixed-media illustrations will be painted with acrylic and spray paint on patterned fabric. Here are a few sample spreads from the sketched dummy book, plus an example illustration. To see the full dummy, please contact me.
